Prepare yourself for tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards
Posted on August 31st, 2006 at 9:05 am by TheMuse

The annual MTV Video Music Awards returns to the Radio City Music Hall in NYC, after paying a hasty visit to Miami last year. The 23rd awards show will take place tonight, and much like its predecessors, would probably contain some classic moments AND Kurt Loader, a classic on his own rights, covering the show. The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shakira earned 7 nominations each and are ruling the nominees list.

Count her in.

Hosted by the all-neurotic Jack Black, the show will feature special performances by Shakira, Ok Go, The Killers and The All American Rejects, among others, plus appearances by Paris Hilton, Borat, The JackAss crew, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Silverman and many more. On the red carpet at the pre-show you will find Fergie and My Chemical Romance.

MTV.com

This year’s treat according to MTV is once again aimed to all you reality-show freaks out there. MTV invites the viewers at home to watch the show on 2 screens – the usual TV screen (hopefully a 52 inch plasma, but a 21 inch oldie will be good enough too) and also on the computer. While the real deal will be broadcasted on TV, the cameras behind the scenes will transfer the entire sweaty junk straight to our personal computer. If you ever wanted to get inside Shakira’s dressing room, don’t miss out this rare and live opportunity.

The VMA website is very informative and packed with current interviews and videos, as well as tributes to the classic VMA moments of all times. Don’t miss out the special voting online game, starring our all-time favorite moon man: Your mission is to grab as many votes as you can for your favorite nominee. Climb the walls, jump around, fly in the air, surf the crowd and collect the votes as fast as you can. The whole nation is depending on you, moon man!

Moon Man!

Another website you might want to check out is NYC’s official VMA weblog, covering the preparations for the show. Loaded with more pictures and even more videos, this weblog can also function as a tour guide for the confusion-stricken visitor to NYC, desperately seeking for a good meal before (or after) the show. Other than the usual info, you can also download VMA desktop wallpapers, buddy icons and a super cool VMA widget (”Vidget”), feeding your desktop with the latest news and updates before, during and after the show.

Bassist Wanted - A comic strip about music, man. http://www.bassistwanted.com

Bass players are the most deprived part of a rock band. Always standing behind the frontman and usually near the drum set, always to accompany and never to have solos, bassists are pretty gray people…

But… not anymore! ‘Bassist Wanted‘ is a comic strip website that focuses on some virtual archetypes that make a living out of this ungrateful profession. Those hilarious strips, exposes us to some most funny situations, that a few permanent characters of this site, “deals” with, on a daily basis.

Help!

Let’s take Brett for an instance, who’s lately obsessed with the fluffy music of Mr. James Blunt… in fact, he HATES it! He hates it so much that all he can think of is how to avoid hearing Blunt’s fruity music… Dan is another freaky musician that’s obsessed with technique and musical scales. On the other side of the food chain you got The Music Label Guys, that always write appendixes to their record deal contracts with an invisible ink (funny as hell)… and so on.

The man himself“Bassist Wanted” is full of sarcastic situation reports about the pop music world and the music industry in general. Porter Mason, the cartoonist who runs, draws and writes the stuff, is a freaky New Yorker, that has been drawing cartoons since the age of five and publishing them since the age of fifteen. His editorial cartoons and comic strips have appeared in The Virginian Pilot, Hamptonroads.com, The Virginia Beach Beacon and HA! Entertainment Magazine. His daily comic strip, “Johnny the Mediocre Human”, ran for two and a half years in the Duke University Chronicle. To add on top of this and all the other projects he was involved with as a writer, Porter’s been performing, directing and teaching live comedy since 1996.

This guy rocks! And also his comic strips! Try them out, NOW!

Ringtone Delight: Panic! at the Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies

Panic!

This next band is really special for the style that they aim to be… They are called “Panic! at The Disco” and when you look at the big picture they appear to be a regular popunk band just like: “Blink 182″ or “Green Day”… But like all new “punk” bands, the “Emo” trend hits and takes over the new “popunk/punk rock” that was last year’s trend… Bands like “Fall Out Boy“, “Thursday” and of course “Panic! At The Disco” in particular combines in their “grudge playing music” elements of theatrical touches, quirky techno beats, and perceptive lyrics. “Panic! At The Disco” are really fresh! They hardly finished high school and already released an album, so let’s take a little trip and see what is behind of this entire new “EMO” trend.

Well, actually it all started back in the 80’s… In the early 80’s the Hardcore Punk began (think Blink 182 but trashier, louder, faster and more about protesting through lyrics than singing about girls) with bands like “Minor Threat“, “Bad Brains”, “Black Flag” and many more. Minor Threat were the inventers of the “straight edge” movement (clean cut all the way) but rumor has it that street punk audiences used to ruin the shows by getting violent and picking on kids. In 1986 the singer of “Minor Threat” formed a band called “Embrace” (by the name u can see that it was more “sensitive”), plus the music wasn’t as fast as his past bands had been and the lyrics kind of changed from simply being rebellious to being rebellious with more feel. The music was more emotional which is what eventually opened up the whole “Emo” scene to bands like “Dag Nasty”, “7 Seconds” and ”Rites Of Spring“.

As the years went by, punk became softer and more popular by the media. Bands like Green Day, Blink 182 and Sum 41 are the bands that represent the side of the “sold out punks” which is the side most people know if they are not into it really… Finally came the Emo core in all its metal guitars, guitar riffs and screaming glory though some songs still included quiet acoustic parts and actually singing vocals. Bands like Finch, Underoath, Thrice and many more are a part of this Emo core genre. So in conclusion, popunk got influenced by this new Emo-Core trend and bands like Panic at the Disco appeared.

Panic at the Disco: They are from Las Vegas and in my opinion their sound is really different than other popunk bands today… aside from their electronic influences. I really like the vocals; high pitched songs are always my favorite! They are really young (like I said str8 outta high school) and just put out their first album titled: “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.” The first hit from that album is: “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and I just freakin fell in love with that song, actually the entire album is really sweet! Don’t judge them by their popunk attitude and don’t let it fool you either – they’re really cool and theatrical, plus their music is interesting!

The ringtone for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” is also really awesome! This band’s music is like really ringtone material; u know, really melodic with nice rhythms along…I love it! I think I’ll give the ringtone 9 TONY’S!!! And really, if u think I’m wrong tell me about it!

Oh, and one more thing: HAVEN’T YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF CLOSING THE GODDAMN DOOR???

Cool Vid: The Internet is For…
Posted on August 30th, 2006 at 8:14 am by TheMuse

Ever wondered what the internet is really for? Some of us use it to find countless amount of information, make new friends, download songs and play World of Warcraft all day long, but let’s face it – one of the most appealing reasons for the human kind to ever start using the internet is, well, you know , Porn.

“Normal people don’t sit at home and look at porn on the internet!” is quite a problematic declaration when it comes from a 3D creature, yet no other creature in this parody video seems to mind.

Here’s your chance to reveal what other people are doing right after they sell on eBay, check stock quotes and send sweet and tender Ecards. Normal or not, the testosterone flavored song, combined with World of Warcraft characters, can easily become the underground anthem of the new generation, net wise that is.

Taken from the Broadway show “Avenue Q” and based on the comfort of fast connection, now we can all find out what those dedicated online-games players are really thinking about. And it’s not Orcs…

Oh, I’m sorry, did I just say Porn? What I really meant was Corn. Yeah, that’s what the internet is for!

Well! Our first internet radio chart here on HitChaser and I’m quite excited. Let us start right away with the top 3: Nelly and Timba are still ruling #1, with the hip-hopish sexy tune Promiscuous. 17 weeks on the chart, and still lookin’ good! Nothing had really changed for Cassie at #2, while Crazy is up 2 places.

The newest song on the chart is SexyBack by Justin Timberlake (7 weeks), down 1 place to #4. It seems that going down the chart is this week’s pleasure, as Christina, Panic! And Janet are also lowering their positions by one place.

Two UPS into the Top 10 from last week – Ridin’ with Chamillionaire (up 8 places!) and Buttons by the Pussycat Dolls (up 3 places). Yung Joc is indeed Goin’ Down 2 places and closes this week’s internet radio chart.

No FRESH songs on this week’s chart! I hope to see more surprises next week.

Spankin’ New! Deftones - Hole in the Earth
Posted on August 29th, 2006 at 7:26 am by RudyGarland

Deftones

Deftones contribution to music cannot be measured by any relative standards, and they gained it fair and square being one of the most innovative alternative bands of all times. They are one of these bands that by each album they record, they only make their fans more peaceful about the quality of the next one (yet very excited). ‘Saturday night wrist’ isn’t so different - worldwide, fans are full of excitement and anticipation.

Deftones released the song ‘Hole in the Earth’ to the web in order to give their fans a little taste of what should be another monstrous fan-duplicator. It starts with persistent hard guitar rhythm supported by heart pounding drums. Soon enough, the atmosphere takes a turn and here comes relaxation with Chino Moreno’s beautiful tender voice, but as we all know already about Deftones ,after silence comes the storm.

Chino’s smoothing voice that can melt steel into butter and butter into water is the leading element in this song with high and low twists, companied by a melody that feels like being on a rollercoaster that only goes down in sharp 90 degrees. But you don’t want to close your eyes on this rollercoaster ride, you might really love the aftermath.

So what do you think of this song? Talkback and let us know!

Ringtone Delight: Cassie Me & U
Posted on August 28th, 2006 at 5:13 pm by RingTony

This Ringtone review is brought to you by The Cell Freak

Well this new artist really started her singing career with a song recorded as a gift for her mother’s birthday (”Kiss Me”)…the song was produced by Ryan Leslie; best known for his production work with “Bad Boy Records”(P Diddy’s label). Her name is Cassandra Ventura or as we know her: “Cassie.”

Look at her, her looks are amazing… ha no wonder she was a fashion model for the “Wilhelmina Modeling Agency”, where she worked with “Adidas”, “Complex magazine” and “Abercrombie & Fitch” campaigns… That’s just crazy…

Tommy Mottola is a former chairman of “Sony” and the record mogul behind the careers of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, and most notably “Mariah Carey. When he heard the song he offered Ventura a management deal but weeks later she struck a deal with Ryan Leslie to produce her debut album: “Cassie”. Than Mr. P. Diddy heard the song “Me & You” at a club and asked her to sing on his record album “Bad Boy”.

The 20 year old girl is goin in the right direction…her album is out now and it’s at number 4 in the first week! Read closely what our Cassie says about her album…: “I rap, I sing, I do my R&B, I do my slow songs and stuff that the girls will love, I have a down South joint, I have a rock song that I did with my girls this band called Pretty Boys.”

Her single “Me & You” has really got the word out! I mean, it reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 (held from #1 by “Promiscuous” by “Nelly Furtado” and “Crazy” by “Gnarls Barkley”) The song spent over a month in the top ten and had already found crossover success before the release of the official video, which is highly unusual…

Ok we got to the part that I like, the ringtone. Only today I’m not really liking it too much… I think the ringtone could bring out of the song, more than it has. It’s not really powerful like the song…yes…I know it’s a ringtone but so what? Even ringtones can prove to be powerful! I’m giving the ringtone 6 TONY’S, sorry people if I let u down… If u think it deserves more, well then, I really don’t want to hear about it! ;)

Take Care…

Viva Tequila!

Tila Tequila
What makes lava melt 100% of MySpace from the inside, while being the worst fear of the average American mom (and your girlfriend)? What makes the perky voice to be heard within the walls of your soon to be not-so-innocent 16 year old daughter? Haven’t guessed yet? I’ll give you another hint. she’s secure enough to blast off lyrics like that:
“See he the type of dude,
That me and my girls laugh at
Trying to holla at me, nah he can’t have that
Need to quit talkin’ like a bitch before I slap that
Even if I pop some pills I wouldn’t tap that”

And you know what? She can. Tila Tequila is so big, even MySpace Tom is beginning to have confidence issues. She was the first cyber Asian girl on playboy and she has a hot clothing line. What used to be a girl living in a Buddhist Temple is now every Buddhist’s worst enemy.

Showing off

Forgot something?

The Tequila story starts in Houston, Texas. By the age of 16 she got kicked from school due to her nasty attitude. When Houston wasn’t challenging anymore, she had to bite the Big Apple and live a hardcore lifestyle in NYC. But even sexin’ in the city wasn’t satisfying enough for the young Tila. She then moved to LA, and at the age of 18 starred as a Playboy darling.

Entered into the club scene pretty quickly, it was a match made in heaven. Whether you like her or not, Tila’s tunes are drugs that you are sure glad they’re legal. Musically speaking, Tila’s music can be defined both Hip Hop as Pop. If you’re into Gwen Stephanie then you might find yourself go b-a-n-a-n-a-s to Tila’s music as well. As for public relations, Tila is all settled. With MySpace being her main publicity base, she proves the world that all you really need in order to get yourself famous is a little help from your friends (and a bunch of naked pictures). This bombshell doesn’t seem to be stopping and with over a kazillion profile MySpace views I believe no one wants her to stop. Long live the Tequila!
