The daily music treat: Miles Before
Posted on October 31st, 2006 at 2:18 pm by DailyTreat

Via Sonific.com:

Miles Before’s songs are filled with the promise of something new and unique, while sounding distinctly familiar. In this case, its self-titled debut EP is reminiscent of early Jawbreaker and Samiam, with touches of Fugazi’s urgency and dynamics.

Ringtone Delight: Hinder - Lips of an Angel
Posted on October 29th, 2006 at 4:10 pm by RingTony

This Ringtone review is brought to you by The Cell Freak.

Hinder

This Oklahoma City band has been playing for a while, since 2002 to be exact. There is five of them (u know- the old, vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, drums), just recently their first debut album was released on “Universal Records” and up until now it’s doin’ just fine… They are Hinder!

Their first single out of their album was titled “Get Stoned” and though parents out their probably don’t appreciate the title, I personally really love the song. However! The second single “Lips of an Angel” is the really amazing one…

The song is really powerful…the rock…the pop… the acoustic guitars.. it’s gr8. The funny thing about the band is that through all the years they have had a problem of their main genre. I mean a band that is self-described as “Hard Rock, Pop Metal, Glam Metal, Post-Grunge” can cause a few dilemmas along the way.

Extreme Behavior

But fuck that, I don’t really care what they are supposed to be called, they’re a good rocking out band and if u dint hear of them till now u better check ‘em out cause their crazy guitar riffs and powerful vocals will really get you hooked (worked on me).

Their whole album is just magnificent. It is titled “Extreme Behavior” and was released about a year ago really…but who cares…this music sticks with you. So back to our song “Lips of an Angel”: it has really been the band’s breakthrough single… I mean it got to number 9 on the “Billboard Hot 100″ and to number 5 on the “U.S. Hot Digital Songs”. PLUS, it got to number 38 in the “U.S. Hot Ringtones” list. (bet you didn’t know there was such a list…)

And that brings me to the ringtone… Yeah, it’s ok. But not A-OK! I think they could’ve done a better job on this one. It’s a real powerful song which could have been brought out more with the bass and the rhythm. I would give this ringtone 6 TONY’S. I wish I could have given more but it has let me down… (Note to band and ringtone composers: pls put out more awesome songs and make better ringtones!) The songs deserve it.

Super spooky weekend music selection!
Posted on October 28th, 2006 at 10:56 am by FunkSinatra

Let’s do the spooky spooky thingy for this Halloween weekend selection. Your servant selected for you, some of his all time favorite reverence tunes, so prepare your chill pills and crosses, cause here it come…

www.coolcomment.com

My favorite horror song of all times is Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper”. This 1976 single is taken from the album Agents of Fortune and was featured in the cult movie Halloween, and in the TV movie The Stand based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name.

Our second classic horror song is no other but the Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” from their album 77, that was released in… 1977. The lyrics of the song are supposed to represent the thoughts of a serial killer. Singer David Byrne has said of this song that it started off as a semi-narrative of the killer actually committing murders…

You can’t have a Halloween selection without Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” from the ‘83 album titled the same. “Thriller” is one of Jackson’s signature songs, in no small part because of its horror music video and it’s featuring a guest “rap” from horror movie icon, Vincent Price.

The Specials “Ghost Town” from ‘81 is another all time spooky classic, with its cabaret-like feel and ghost-like singing in it’s chorus,

…and the Cure’s “Lullaby” from ‘89, will take you to the realm of a one of a kind spider man, that’s obsessed with having lead singer Robert Smith for a gourmet dinner (tonight!).

We’ll finish this horror selection with my all time favorite “The Time Warp” from the 1975 movie “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Every party needs a group dance moment. “The Time Warp” is easy to follow. The song tells you how to turn a simple party into a proper horrific function!

Stay Safe!
