The Documentary “Made in Sheffield” spreads out the rise and fall of Sheffield’s electronic pop scene in the early 80′. Bands such as “Cabaret Voltaire“, “ABC” and “Pulp” that got their 15 minutes of fame later in their career, started as no more than beat up underground bands. While the reckless brats from London wasted their days smashing guitars and cursing the queen, the lovely lads from the north (Sheffield is northern England) thought they were killing Rock’n'Roll.
How did I come up with this? Well, I coincidently looked up ‘Sheffield’ in Youtube, and found a trailer to the film. When I saw Phil Oakey from “The Human League” saying “We thought we were the punkiest band in Sheffield. We were laughing at the band that learned to play guitar, ‘cos they bothered learning three chords, we just used one finger”, I knew I had to have it. After a while I found the movie’s torrent file and downloaded it.
This documentary is both historically interesting and self – consciously hilarious. Apart from telling the story ad electronic pop, it shows how to be an underdog without having self pity.
And for those of you who are concern with the questions “why the hell did you look up “Sheffield” in Youtube”: sorry, can’t answer right now. Too busy doing nothing.

Well, this trailer seems quite incoherent, but Jessica Alba’s so hot probably no one will ever notice. But for all of you who are interested in the true meaning of this film, and tired of reading boring reviews written by people who actually saw the films, I give you my expert film student trailer review.
As you can see, Jessica really wants to get married, but this silver surfer guy from Kinkios did not get the invitations printed on time. Jessica and her groom, terrified from postponing the wedding, chase the silver surfer, but fail to catch him. Hot Jessica furiously bursts into flames, but still silver surfer refuses to give her the invitations. Will Jessica and her groom ever get those invitations? Is Kinkios a reliable company? Where are Jessica’s acting abilities?
To answer these questions you will unfortunately have to see this film. It’s out today. Good luck!
Ever since they learned how to dress up sassy, girls rocked the charts. Starting with all those cute sixties bands with the girls in mini dresses and bee-hive hair, and up until now – girls bands always have the most up-to-date look and style.
We gathered a few examples from over the years, to show you the funny outfits people used to wear not so long ago, but not less important – to push some retro girl power into you veins for the upcoming weekend!
The Ronettes - Be My Baby (1965)
The mega producer and killer Phil Spector and his soon- to- be wife Ronnie showed the world how to make girl pop in the early 60′. I wish I could dance like that!
Bananarama – Venus (1986)
One of the most successful British girl groups in pop history. This song is a cover to Shocking Blue’s 60s hit. Love the use of the sweaty guys and Satan costume. Burn baby, burn!
Spice Girls – Wannabe (1997)
In the middle of the 90s there was a major explosion of girl and boy bands (I wouldn’t count on the ‘boy’ part). These British girls got into the charts as well as into the tabloids, and taught whole generations of girl the meaning on the phrase “girl power”.
Pussycat Dolls – I don’t need a man (2006)
In four simple steps we got from a girl begging to a guy: “be my baby”, to the dolls sayin’ “I don’t need a man”. The ladies have progressed much in the last 40 years, but unfortunately lost a whole lot of clothes on the way – the price of feminism.
Ever since Asimov came out with the idea of a machine that can think and feel, humans were fascinated by the idea. You can find robots in horror films, being a menace to society, in sci-fi books, trying to be friendly, and in my back yard, just chillin’. Yep. Robots are everywhere around.
When robots invaded our music, we said: that’s enough! But it was too late. I would like to share this convicting evidence. Watch and learn- this is the evolution of the man – machine, the android, the robot! Learn the specifications – you’ll need them when the world comes to an end!
Kraftwerk, the German pioneers of electronic music, based all of their music on the fine line between the machine and the… well, other machine. To me they don’t look like robots- more like wax figurines… but these were the 70′. Let’s move on.
Gary Numan is well known for his all-time serious face and his strange interest in machines and electricity. On this video you can see that Gary was trapped inside his oversized computer, sitting in a suspicious wheelchair.
For those of you who couldn’t help noticing that the creatures in these videos were just men dressed up like robots – I give you Herbie Hancock, in the video that frightened us when we were kids. These are definitely robots!
And for all of you that think that you can use more tips on how to recognize a robot, I give you “Flight of the Concords” – a folk duel and a new comedy series in HBO:
