Did Timbaland steal Nelly Furtado’s beats?

Timbaland

This video claims to show a suspicious similarity between hip hop producer, Timbaland’s 2006 beats for a Nelly Frutado track, Do It, and a 2000 track by a Finnish musician called Janne Suni. Did Timbaland copy some beats? I’m not sure. The similarity is mostly between the baseline riffs of the two songs, and they sound so basic, that I’m sure we could find thousands of songs with the same structure. The Youtube maker of this video, a user appropriately named Timbalandrips, seems to be convinced, and tries to broaden the case with an equalized examination of the harmony of each track. Not sure I’m buying this, and not sure that I’m against beat theft - because what is sampling after all - but maybe the Finns do deserve a second chance? You and Magoo be the judge.

Here’s the Timbaland rips video:

That Finnish track won top spot for oldschool music competition at the Assembly 2000. http://www.assembly.org

Afterwards, another musician converted the track onto c64 (sid chip music)

and thats what timbaland stole. C64/SiD has a distinct sound.

In the video, its shown that the distinctive sound of c64/SiD is still there, and through use of filters its only shown more clearly.

If you are unsure if it is a pure ripoff check the second youtube video on the subject http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV2fTEeP6GM or this site http://timbalandtempest.ytmnd.com
