Tasty Indie weekend selections

This weekend’s selection brings you some fine indie music.

Scissors for Lefty

We’ll start the ride with Scissors for Lefty. This hot San-Francisco quartet just released their first major released single, “Ghetto Ways”, that sounds somewhere between Britpop band Pulp’s music and L.C.D. Sound System’s disco-rock, which also accompanies a great video. In it, the band members loose themselves in Jose Olivera’s 1970’s Horror Film “The Dead the Devil and the Flesh”. Check out the overseeing monk having his way as he controls the bald man to torment and confuse the man in the blue suit:

And also visit the band’s MySpace page and official website.

Peelander-Z

We’ll move on to Peelander-Z, a colorful Japanese punk-rock band that’s located in NYC. It looks like that the band have a world of their own, with their glamorous costumes and wacky Japanese chic and it feels like they came from a distant freaky planet. Check out their anima-punk song “Manga Man” on their own Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/peelanderz. This song will give you an energy boost for sure LOL. Check out an outer-worldish video sample taken from one of their live shows:

and drop by their their official website.

TV on the Radio

Time to chill a little and we’ll use the great TV On The Radio to do it. “Dry Drunk Emperor” is one of my favorite songs of this amazing post-rock band. Check it out their Myspace page which holds many other goodies in it, for an instance, a live performance of T.V.O.T.R.’s song “Dreams” that host Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and 80’s band Bauhaus lead singer Peter Murphy for an amazing session!

Bauhaus

Talking about Bauhaus, they were one of the leading 80’s British post-punk bands and also considered as the founding fathers of Goth rock. Throughout their brief career, the band explored all the variations on their bleak musical ideas, adding elements of glam rock, experimental electronic rock, funk, and heavy metal. We’ll finish this weekend’s selection with a rare live performance of their ‘ahead of it’s time’ song, “Dancing”. When you hear it, you understand that music didn’t change that much over the last 25 years…

Have a great weekend!
